I was very involved in XR for two years after it started, hoping that it might work (let's be honest, the hope was for an overthrow of the existing social order). I don't know whether it might have done, but lockdown put an end to it. I've moved into teaching in the hope that I can at least do some service to the younger generation whose adult lives are going to largely be unimaginably hard.
Also, upon rereading, I will note that when I was hit by a car a few years ago (much less injured than I expected) my first thought upon impact was "Oh this is a stupid way to die".
